Ho Ho Yo

Pardon, I'm a tid bat tipsy.

Just caught a bit of the live action version of the grinch....you know, the one with Ace Ventura? Ok... honestly. I only caught about 3 minutes of it, but it was a rather relevant part. Right towards the end, the slay is going over the cliff and the grinch must stop this from happening. First problem: Cindy LooWhoo IS NO MORE THAN TWO DAMNIT!!! AGHHHH!!!! Second, they threw that little whelp on top of the sled for one reason. The sled is going over. The Grinch: "Well it's only toys..."
They are trying to play up how materialism is not the main point of christmas. Any dong who saw the original knows that the reason the grinch worked so hard to keep the sled from falling (the sled represents the materialistic side of christmas) was because the Who's started singing DESPITE the fact that the all the material was taken away. They missed the whole point in this version. And there is a reason for that. Nowadays, the only thing that DOES matter to most is the material side of Christmas, so they had to throw in the moral given that the material side does not matter. That is why they threw the over aged Who on top of the sled. Because why else would would the grinch gain super strength i.e. heart *3. Certainly not to save the materialistic aspect of christmas which did not matter to the who's ultimately. They missed the whole point man.
On a related note, Happy Christmas.

This is highly unusual.

This week I have decided to do something a little bit different. I'm going to review a videogame demo, a book I haven't finished, and a movie I haven't seen.
The video game demo in question is Dragon Quest VIII, and this one has really got me going. As many of you may o may not know, there is a deep connection between the Dragon Quest series and the RPG Maker series, and it really shows in VIII. It has a lot of really clever details and ideas, all the while many of the mechanics remind me of the makers. I guess the way to look at it is that, this is the best that a full blown company can come up with. Anyway, I'm ramblin... the things that impressed me: unique stats, a dedicated button to turn and talk to your party, the look of everything and the fact that it made me laugh...during a battle. It seems to be a rather clever game. It has pretty much convinced me to play it in lieu of RPG Maker 3 or Resident Evil 4. So it is at the top of my Amazon wishlist, so I am certain to snag it. If you don't hear from me...well...whatever.
I suppose the most notable book that I have started but not finished would be The DaVinci Code. I just couldn't bring myself to finish it up. I mean, the guy is fairly decent researcher but he got formulaic right out of the gate. I swear...sometimes it felt like the other characters were just there to keep the main guys dialogue going. "Really? I hadn't thought of that, tell me more and/or [insert stupid question]" That's how it seemed man. I really think people will be better off if they just catch a documentary on it by some reputable channel like A&E. Trust me people... much better spyish type mystery books out there. You won't even need to look hard.
As for a movie I haven't seen...hmmm....how about something from the theatre? I'll find something random... Yours, Mine and Ours. Perfect. This movie blows chunks, but it'll still make more money then it cost to make. The reason it's going to suck is because it is a remake, and all they did was modernize it. Doomed to failure. The original isn't bad for what it is, but this newer excursion is likely to be downright wrong.
On a related note, I beat the expansion pack for Medieval: Total War as the vikings. It was a whole lot of fun. For those of you who don't know, Total War rules. Now what do I play while I watch tv... Black and White? Prison Tycoon? Runescape? Vampire? Sims? Diablo? Warcraft? I don't think it matters.

Hmmmph. So you need proof now?

I ask you something...when confronted by a Fact, do you ever question it?

Along with television, mcdonalds, the System is created to make obedient sheep.

However, there is "another" side, which I rather not tell you.

Do you know your own true nature?

Do you ever seek to actually learn anymore?

There is, afterall, more then one path to everything.

Nonetheless, there is another side still...but I rather not tell you. You are too ingrained in it already.

You only learn what you need to know, after all.

Me, myself, am not going to school, i broke my ankle previously and my school is a 3-story building, so im going back next semester. Also, im from Puerto Rico, the learning system here is VERY different from there, the teachers are more friendly and some like telling truths to kids, but you, topic creator sound like a 5th grader whos having a hard time doing his homework, i suggest www.wikipedia.com>_>

I do feel that the American school systems main focus is to make individuals just smart enough to get and keep low paying, dead end jobs, but not quite smart enough to realize they don't have to work these jobs just to live, there's so much better they could be doing with their life. Of course, when you consider the fact that the average American doesn't really have the ambition to do better with their life I suppose it's a decent system (just so you know, I'm American, so It's not like I'm talking bad about things I have no idea about)...I also feel that if the education system where to teach a little more "real world" stuff then it would be a bit better also. What's the point in knowing calculus and biology if you don't know how to go about filing taxes? I don't know about you, but there's a lot I didn't learn in school that could have come in a LOT more useful than how a cow's digestive system works...

First of all, I don't know if you're trying to use yourself as proof that educational system in this country sucks or what, but nobody's going to listen to you if you sound like that.

Second, why do you think the system is so bad? It's by no means perfect, but a lot of the common complains about it are just bull.

There's the old "School was just created to train people to follow bells SO THEY COULD WORK IN FACTORIES!" What relevance does that have today? I personally don't see anything particularly evil in going from class to class when you hear a bell, and (correct me if I'm wrong), but school today is pretty much intended to keep you from working in a factory, so who cares if the context in which the actual learning takes place is a little monotonous?

Then there's the argument that schools just don't teach well enough, which is patently ridiculous. By the time you're in high school you're free to take basically whatever classes you want. The fact that most people are apathetic and take the easiest classes you can (woodshop, basket-weaving) and the lowest levels of their required academics just so they can put forth no effort and squeak isn't the fault of the system, it's the fault of the dumb asses who do it. If you take all academic subjects (for example, my school requires a combined seven years of math and science, I've taken about ten) and classes at the highest levels (Honors, AB, BC, EEP, whatever you've got at your school) and actually put forth your best effort, you will almost certainly get a good education.

And then, of course, there's the even more ridiculous assertion that schools brainwash you into blindly believing what you hear. So, by giving you information they're training you to automatically believe their information? How would you like them to remedy this, by just ceasing to teach you anything? I don't know about you, but at my school we frequently get projects that require us to do research outside of school, often on a subject of our own choosing, which, to me, doesn't seem to be blindly accepting everything the school tells us at all. And have you ever questioned something a teacher said, or asked another teacher a question one couldn't answer, or become interested in a subject and done some reading in it outside of school? All of these are quite possible, and if you choose not to do them, I really don't see how it's the school system's fault. What you're basically saying is that you want to learn things besides what the school gives you...but you want the school to give it to you. Bravo.

Hmm...that turned out somewhat longer than I meant it to, actually, and now that I read past the first post I see this must be a joke topic. I guess I'll post this anyway though.

^ Very valid points. Especially about how this is prolly just a joke topic. But it does illustrate an interesting point. There are many sources within our society that brainwash young people into believing that school is nothing but a brainwashing factory. The motivation is clear (cha-ching) to peddle this viewpoint, and people tend to feel special when they hold a belief they believe to be unique.
I am working in the public school system, and i see these types of kids all the time. "You just want us to accept facts without questioning!". Actually i wish kids these days would actually ask some decent questions as opposed to just claiming that we don't want them to. It's quite sad really, but inevitable with that age group.

Firechainsaw made me laugh.

Also, twilight, I'm not trying to discourage your way of thinking if you are in fact genuine, in fact I would hope you would be willing to be a bit more open about your thoughts so perhaps we could all learn from each other. I'm from Canada, and actually taking a course in this in my university. Basically here's why the education system (which is very similar to, but not as bad as America's) doesn't work.

If I give you the last exam you've written (doesn't matter what level schooling), with no previous warning, will you do well?

Chances are you wouldn't do very well.

Now abou this whole brainwashing thing. I don't believe that the school system is being used to plant some secret ideal system in your head or something. However, I do believe that you become 'brainwashed' in the sense that you stop caring about the process or the consequences of learning, because you become so numb to the point of learning after years of stupid lessons about stuff you don't care about.

In other words:
School = ineffective, boring and mind numbing? yes
School = government conspiracy? no

Of my current classes, I'm fairly confident I could do just as well as I did last time (if not better) for physics, math, and spanish. With english and history, I'd definitly have to review, but that's a good thing. If I didn't, the class would be nothing more than me memorizing things. But if instead it's built so that after some review time I'd be fully up to speed, the class would be going well because I would have learned concepts, not useless details.

Very true Darky. I believe we can agree that it is a problem that can be fixed if we implement drastic enough changes. Of course with this issue, like most issues, there are two types of people. The ones who complain and do nothing, and those who try to make the existing system better. Oh wait...there are also those who just state vague mystical statements about some higher truth that they alone are privy to...what an ego.

Twilight, there will come a time when you realize that if you are going to do justice to any belief you hold, you must move it out of the purely philosophical, and try to make a difference in the REAL world. When you are ready, i just hope you will find someone who is still willing to listen.

Hmmm. Fine, I'll tell you who conspires against us to go to an American Education System, to get dumbified.

It is, of course, ourselves.

Who else, would be so resentful of the system, yet still forces itself to go to it?

And when we go in it, to "learn" what we hope to, vainly to know that we could have gotten the same skills except by raw experience, by actually going out into this world, and suffering?

When confronted by the School, we attempt to negatively "idolize" it, so we hate it so much, yet go to it anyway.

Why? Because we believe we have no choice. Supposedly, the Government had the power to "destroy" us.

However, in reality, they don't.

The Government has no power over us, that we don't give it.

That's the irony of conspiracy theories, we make them ourselves. We "give" the government power, and when we get upset with the system, we pretend the "Man" is keeping us down.

When in reality, there is no one next to us, with a Gun sticking to us around our head.

This is a Time of Insecurity, afterall.

We prefer to externalize our weaknesses, rather then internalize then, too.

For the one who said I was a Sixth Grader who was given a Science Project?

I merely wonder, because "He" might be the one who is a Sixth Grader with a science project.

....Hmm...maybe I said too much.

I have to be careful about that, after all. Not everyone wants to avoid ignorance.

Thank you for finally sharing Twilight. You have convinced me you are not a moron, although i still believe you are a bit egotistical. But who knows... maybe i just don't understand your style.
A couple of key points you made are very true. The system does try to convince us that if we fail in school we are worse off for it, when in reality that really just has to do with what you want out of life. If you are content working 60 hours a week to be able afford only what you need, then not going to school is not a very big deal. Perhaps the falacy that you are trying to point out is that most people in the system do not understand this point of view, and therefor cannot understand why someone would want it. It's a by-product of living in a materialistic society, and in that sense, the Man does have us by the balls. If you truly don't care about that material crap( I emphasize 'truly') then nobody really has anything over you. I still feel it is advisable for people in these positions within the system to continue to encourage their students, as quite often peoples priorities change and all of a sudden 24 k a year aint so hot.
