This is highly unusual.
This week I have decided to do something a little bit different. I'm going to review a videogame demo, a book I haven't finished, and a movie I haven't seen.
The video game demo in question is Dragon Quest VIII, and this one has really got me going. As many of you may o may not know, there is a deep connection between the Dragon Quest series and the RPG Maker series, and it really shows in VIII. It has a lot of really clever details and ideas, all the while many of the mechanics remind me of the makers. I guess the way to look at it is that, this is the best that a full blown company can come up with. Anyway, I'm ramblin... the things that impressed me: unique stats, a dedicated button to turn and talk to your party, the look of everything and the fact that it made me laugh...during a battle. It seems to be a rather clever game. It has pretty much convinced me to play it in lieu of RPG Maker 3 or Resident Evil 4. So it is at the top of my Amazon wishlist, so I am certain to snag it. If you don't hear from me...well...whatever.
I suppose the most notable book that I have started but not finished would be The DaVinci Code. I just couldn't bring myself to finish it up. I mean, the guy is fairly decent researcher but he got formulaic right out of the gate. I swear...sometimes it felt like the other characters were just there to keep the main guys dialogue going. "Really? I hadn't thought of that, tell me more and/or [insert stupid question]" That's how it seemed man. I really think people will be better off if they just catch a documentary on it by some reputable channel like A&E. Trust me people... much better spyish type mystery books out there. You won't even need to look hard.
As for a movie I haven't seen...hmmm....how about something from the theatre? I'll find something random... Yours, Mine and Ours. Perfect. This movie blows chunks, but it'll still make more money then it cost to make. The reason it's going to suck is because it is a remake, and all they did was modernize it. Doomed to failure. The original isn't bad for what it is, but this newer excursion is likely to be downright wrong.
On a related note, I beat the expansion pack for Medieval: Total War as the vikings. It was a whole lot of fun. For those of you who don't know, Total War rules. Now what do I play while I watch tv... Black and White? Prison Tycoon? Runescape? Vampire? Sims? Diablo? Warcraft? I don't think it matters.

Yah for DG8. I'm glad you like it. Sean got me FFIV for the SP so I'll let you know how that is!
